Could you be a
Volunteer Mediator?
- Are you calm, non-judgemental and flexible?
- Do you enjoy working with people?
- Are you able to help others resolve disputes without taking
sides?
Highly-trained volunteers deliver our mediation
services, and we are regularly looking for new volunteers to join
our team. We do require all volunteers to undertake a 6-day Open
College Network training course, even those already trained in Alternative
Dispute Resolution. We normally run 1 course in any calendar year,
so there may be a wait from initial application to starting the
training. There is a selection process for places on the training
course, and this will be outlined in more detail when course recruitment
takes place.
Once trained as a mediator, you will be linked
to a mentor, an experienced mediator who will be paired with you
for the first 3 cases. The induction process will be outlined and
explained to you at this stage.
Once trained as a mediator, we ask that you are
available for at least 5 cases a year. You may be offered more cases
than this, depending on the level of referrals and your availability.
In return for the training, we do ask for a minimum commitment of
volunteering for the service for 12 months, and we hope for a much
longer association with you to reflect your enjoyment of the role.
